Creation – Artistic Programs

The Program

The programs of the Creative Activity Centers for People with Disabilities include a wide variety of artistic, cultural, recreational, and psycho-educational activities and are aimed at children aged 6 and above, as well as young people with intellectual disabilities and/or autism. The Artistic–Creative programs include the following:

Music-Theatre Group

One of the main goals is for the young participants to take on roles as “actors,” to engage in dialogue, sing, play musical instruments, move, and express themselves with their bodies on stage. All of this is done with the support and guidance of specialized instructors. Fun related exercises and songs are used as tools—“materials”—during the operation of the group.

Music-World

A small “orchestra,” a musical ensemble exclusively for children and teenagers who love music. Using boomwhackers, percussion instruments, keyboard, guitar, and vocals at various times, the group aims to give performances, mini-concerts, and potentially collaborate with other artistic groups (theatre, dance, etc.).

We can find music in every form of human expression—movement, speech, rhythm, a gesture, an emotion, and so much more—rather than as a rigid educational process. From this perspective, any form of diversity is “embraced” as an authentic part of our group. The weekly sessions last two hours and are guided by two professional musicians specialized in special education.

Music Activities in Autism

Music and its elements—such as rhythm, pulse, melody, and silence—reflect life itself and human expression in all its dimensions.

In this program, music becomes the bridge through which a relationship of trust is built and psycho-educational or simply recreational goals can be achieved. Indicatively, the following are cultivated: communication, interaction, attention span, social skills, understanding of boundaries, body coordination, emotional expression, emotional support, and more.

Theatre Play (Drama Game)

It is addressed to children, teenagers, and adults, and its goal is to use experiential action as a key tool for enhancing expressiveness and movement skills among participants.

The drama game borrows many elements and techniques from theatre, such as role-playing, improvisation, “transformation,” and pantomime.

It is used to strengthen relationships within the group.

It is an enjoyable process of discovering oneself and the world through the cultivation of creativity and imagination.

Traditional Dances

The general goal is to learn traditional dances from various regions of Greece—while at the same time becoming familiar with the customs and traditions of each area. The final desired goal is the potential presentation of the group in events organized by the Association as well as in cultural events within the community.

Visual Arts

The aim of the program is to activate both the imagination and the creativity of children, youth, and adults.

Through activities and visual-art interventions, participants express emotions, dreams, and personal experiences.

A variety of “tools” and “media” are used, such as painting, sculpture–clay, collage, etc.

The enjoyment, pleasure, and ultimately the sense of fulfillment that a visual-art experience provides—through experimentation with materials and techniques—have a decisive value for overall future development.

Sensory experiences, skills, aptitudes, and talents are strengthened, while behavior and emotions become more organized and balanced.

Environmental Education

The aim of the program is for participants to become familiar with the natural environment (plants and animals) as well as the human-made environment.

Care and respect for the environment are the core values promoted. Gardening—either in pots or in the garden—serves as an ideal activity, as it combines learning and enjoyment while also benefiting the participants’ cognitive and emotional development.

Ecological concepts such as the reuse and recycling of materials contribute to developing environmental awareness. At the same time, the idea and practice of healthy living are promoted.

Opening Hours

At the Creative Activity Center, the programs take place daily throughout the entire school year. The days and times the child/young person will attend depend on the group to which they will be assigned (a decision based on their abilities, needs, and the programs they wish to participate in). The program schedule is divided into two time zones:

A First Zone 13.00-16.00
B Second Zone 16.30-19.30

Some of our beneficiaries attend and participate in the programs during the First Zone (13:00–16:00), while others attend during the Second Zone (16:30–19:30). During each time zone, multiple groups participate simultaneously in different programs.

If preferred, there is also the option for an individual to participate exclusively in a single program.

Location

The programs are held at our facilities, at the 4th High School of Palaio Faliro, and at our organization’s space in the playground (Agia Skepi area – Palaio Faliro). For participants from the southern suburbs, there is also the option of transportation via the Association’s bus (pick-up from specific locations) upon prior arrangement.

Participation in the Programs

Interested individuals can initially contact the Association by phone (+30 210 9828150). A face-to-face meeting is then arranged, serving as a first introduction with the supervisor and the department head. During this meeting, the participant’s integration into one of the Creative Activity Center (KDAP) groups is discussed, based on the child’s/young person’s specific needs and abilities.
