Movement – Sports Programs

The Program

The programs of the Creative Activity Center for People with Disabilities include a wide variety of artistic, cultural, recreational, and psycho-educational activities and are aimed at children aged 6 and above, as well as young people with intellectual disabilities and/or autism. The Movement-Sports programs include the following:

Sports–Movement Games

The aim of the program is to improve basic motor skills (running, jumping, kicking, throwing a ball).

Participants are given the opportunity to perceive their body as a whole (posture, gait, balance, awareness of body parts), to move and orient themselves in space.

Overall, the program helps them develop gross and fine motor skills and strengthen visual–motor coordination.

Group Games / Group Activities

The purpose is to develop social and cognitive skills.

Through play, participants have the opportunity to strengthen their interaction skills with proper guidance and practice opportunities. T

hrough enjoyable collaborative activities, areas such as self-esteem, self-affirmation, observation and listening skills, emotional expression, and respect toward oneself and others are supported.

Yoga

In the yoga sessions, practices are adapted to the individual needs of each participant in an easy and enjoyable way. Simple or more complex movements stretch, align, and strengthen the body while calming the mind. Coordination of body parts is developed, breathing becomes more balanced, and the goal is to promote calmness and relaxation of the central nervous system.

Dance-Movement

This program aims to develop visual and motor coordination, as well as interaction and socialization. Using music, dance, speech, and various props, participants work on fundamental concepts of space (e.g., near–far, up–down) and time (e.g., slow–fast tempo). They also focus on their physical presence and on using different parts of the body to create movement patterns. Opportunities are provided for improvisation and the production of movements (spontaneous personal bodily expression), which bring immediate enjoyment. Active listening to music chosen by the group significantly promotes positive participation from all members.

Opening Hours

At the Creative Activity Center, the programs take place daily throughout the entire school year. The days and times the child/young person will attend depend on the group to which they will be assigned (a decision based on their abilities, needs, and the programs they wish to participate in). The program schedule is divided into two time zones:

A First Zone 13.00-16.00
B Second Zone 16.30-19.30

Some of our beneficiaries attend and participate in the programs during the First Zone (13:00–16:00), while others attend during the Second Zone (16:30–19:30). During each time zone, multiple groups participate simultaneously in different programs.

If preferred, there is also the option for an individual to participate exclusively in a single program.

Location

The programs are held at our facilities, at the 4th High School of Palaio Faliro, and at our organization’s space in the playground (Agia Skepi area – Palaio Faliro). For participants from the southern suburbs, there is also the option of transportation via the Association’s bus (pick-up from specific locations) upon prior arrangement.

Participation in the Programs

Interested individuals can initially contact the Association by phone (+30 210 9828150). A face-to-face meeting is then arranged, serving as a first introduction with the supervisor and the department head. During this meeting, the participant’s integration into one of the Creative Activity Center (KDAP) groups is discussed, based on the child’s/young person’s specific needs and abilities.
