The Day Center for Children

The center functions as a unit for daily therapeutic intervention and psychosocial rehabilitation, as well as a counseling hub supporting families. In addition to therapeutic and educational programs, the center offers Educational Support programs and counseling services.

From the critical age of 2 years old, our goal is to provide children with a comprehensive and individualized psychoeducational program. The primary aim of the Day Center for Children with PDD is to facilitate their integration into the school environment and their inclusion in society as equal members.

The intervention model promoted by ALMA’s scientific team is based on a holistic, interdisciplinary approach. Educational practice is influenced by the needs of individuals with developmental difficulties for a warm and supportive environment, alongside the necessity for structure and consistency. Through collaboration within the interdisciplinary team, a “shared” approach is created, forming the cornerstone of the therapeutic program, which is applied on an individual, pair, or group level.

All therapists, regardless of specialty, work towards the same goal and focus on the areas most needed by each child. For example, if a child is being taught the social skill of “greeting” when entering a space, this is addressed and recorded by all specialties, ensuring both skill acquisition and generalization.

Additionally, all professionals involved in the child’s support

being fully informed about the specific difficulties present in each developmental or functional domain can appropriately support them in self-care activities (using the toilet, washing hands, eating, etc.) and in reducing non-functional behaviors. Non-functional behaviors are defined as specific, monotonous, repetitive behaviors that significantly hinder the individual’s functioning across all areas of life. These may include stereotypical and repetitive motor mannerisms, rigid adherence to non-functional routines or rituals, and persistent focus on specific objects.

The ultimate goal of the educational and therapeutic programs is to provide each individual with opportunities to reach their full potential and achieve key developmental milestones regarding cognitive and social skills, functionality, and independence in daily living activities.

The holistic approach model follows all modern therapeutic interventions. As a result, elements of TEACCH and ABA approaches are integrated into the program, along with educational techniques aimed at promoting school and community inclusion.

Children attending the Day Center for Children with Pervasive Developmental Disorders also have the opportunity to participate in Educational Support programs, such as: Reinforcement Teaching, Parallel Support, and Home Tutoring.
